Mother's Day and Messes

Posted By: Brilliant Results on 5/14/2018 | kid messes, kid messes, kid messes, kid messes

Another Mother’s Day came and went and we hope that all you moms out there felt special and loved because here at Brilliant Results Cleaning, we know you are.

Here’s to all the moms who clean crayon off the wall, food thrown across the room, juice spills, and many, many more. With everything on your plate, stressing about these messes should be the last thing you do. So, here are few tricks to clean those pesky messes so you don't have to stress.

When it comes to removing crayon off the wall, we have heard some crazy, different solutions from mayonnaise to WD-40. Our favorite way is to heat up the crayon wax on the wall and use dish detergent to wipe away the crayon.
With food stains, whether on clothes or carpet, maybe from an impromptu spaghetti food fight, it is important to get the area soaking with a mixture of cold water, white vinegar and dish soap. Next rub the spot and rinse. If the stain only got lighter, repeat the process.

Next, let’s think about some art projects gone wrong. Perhaps some paint got on your table. Without scratching the table, try using a credit card to scrape off the paint. Then pour a few drops of olive oil on the left-over marks and cover the spot. If this works, you will be able to wipe the paint right up.

Lastly, though we hate to say, we have heard it, going to get your baby from the crib and realizing what was once in the diaper, isn’t anymore. Believe me, you’ll laugh about it later. You’ll want to immediately apply stain treatment and soak in cold water. You can apply bleach to the laundry or soak using dish soap.

With any pesky stains, feel free to give us a call so we can help you tackle it and keep your home clean.

Posted By: Brilliant Results on 4/17/2018 | Clean Home, Clean Home

Whether you’re a neat freak or would be okay never cleaning a thing again, the truth is that cleaning is good for you in more ways than one. More than the joys and freedom of a cleaner home and more than the benefit of spacious room. So, if you need motivation to clean your home or hire someone to clean your home here are some additional reasons to do so.

Having a cleaner house statistically will make you exercise more. The clean house subconsciously triggers your mind and encourages you to exercise more. You can even count cleaning your home as exercise! Maybe you’re too busy to keep a clean home and exercise, this way you can multitask.

Along with a clean home, there is no better way to sleep then in clean sheets and a made bed. This small chore can bring huge benefits to your sleep that would greatly outweigh the hassle of making your bed in the morning.
In a study by Florida State University researchers found that washing your dishes can clear your mind and allow for a mindful meditation reducing stress and boosting immune systems. Going to bed knowing your sink is full of dirty, smelly dishes can cause you stress and keep you distracted while you sleep. This goes for other spaces in your home too. In fact, researchers for the journal Psychological Science found that people existing in a tidy environment and twice as likely to grab a more nutritious snack like an apple.

The final benefit we are going to talk about is the release for frustration that cleaning allows. When you get mad, your body reacts to make you more restless. So, if you’re angry and feel you must be doing something, try cleaning.

Removing Pesky Carpet Stains

Posted By: Brilliant Results on 4/2/2018 | Carpet Stains, Carpet Stains, Carpet Stains

Carpet stains are dreadful and well frankly, inevitable unless you can find a way to keep everyone off it. No kids, no toys, no dogs, no snacks or drinks, and to play it safe, we will say no husbands allowed on the new carpet. But this is not a movie and dogs drool, kids spill and husbands drool and spill. So, we put together a small guide on cleaning those stains and spill from your carpet.

Juice spills can be the hardest to clean up but it is possible, even red juice from white carpet. The trick is to first blot the stain with a dry towel. The key word is to blot the spot, any rubbing or smearing could make it worse. Next, you’ll fill a spray bottle with ¼ cup white vinegar, 1 tbsp of Dawn dish soap and the rest water. Spray the stain and blot with a dry towel until it’s removed.

When it comes to pet stains (things like pee or poop), you’ll want to first clean up the initial mess by blotting the wet spot until its try. If you have found that the stain has soaked in, you can moisten the spot and then blot it dry again.

Coffee stains can be tricky and can create a stain that is uglier than a normal stain already is with it’s yellow- brown coloring. But you can prevent a stain if treated properly. You’ll want to blot the wetness away with a dry towel. Don’t be afraid to use several towels, they are cheaper than new carpet and this will prevent spreading the stain or pushing it deeper into the carpet. Next try the mixture you used for juice and then repeat it.

Blood stains need to be treated as soon as possible, that being the trick to getting them out. Another trick is using cold water instead of hot. If it’s not coming up easily, you can add 2 teaspoons of a grease fighting liquid dish detergent and cold water in a spray bottle and spray the stain wet then uses paper towel to blot the stains.

Lastly, we will cover ink stains. These are probably the hardest to remove but made easier if responded to quickly. You can get a clean cloth wet with isopropyl alcohol and dab the stain.

Hopefully this will help you with your stains and if you need help, give us a call, we would love to help your carpet to look brand new!

Spring Cleaning Myths

Posted By: Brilliant Results on 3/26/2018 | Spring cleaning

Today is March 26 and you know what that means! You don’t know what that means? Well, it is officially national spring cleaning week. We gave you some tips and starting points to think about in our last blog and hopefully you were able to get a good start but now it’s time to get real so here’s a list of spring cleaning myths and truths.

Myth: Gutters only need to be cleaned in Spring.

Truth: Clogged gutter lead to damage, no matter the season. Clean them of debris in the spring and the fall.

Myth: Bleach is a great cleaner.

Truth: Bleach is a great disinfectant. In order to get rid of dirt and grime, use a cleaner.

Myth: Your dishwasher cleans itself.

Truth: Your dishwasher cleans your dishes. You should probably get in there and clean the actual dishwasher too. Clean out debris, wipe off the compartments and maybe run the dishwasher once while empty.

Myth: Citrus peels are good for the garbage disposal and smell.

Truth: Citrus peels only momentarily disguises the smell but it will come back and you risk clogging your sink with the peels.

Myth: Wash your laundry in cold water.

Truth: While washing laundry in cold water is good for your energy costs it also encourages spreading of bacteria and mold. Instead wash on warm for cloths and hot for bedding.

That’s just a few things to consider when doing Spring Cleaning. Always make sure you are using a solid product for what you want done and never assume one product can do it all.

If you have any questions or want to set up a cleaning, give us a call and we can help you out!

Spring Cleaning Tips

Posted By: Brilliant Results on 3/20/2018 | Spring cleaning, Spring cleaning, Spring cleaning

The first day of Spring is an exciting time for many reasons. The main one being the end of the dreaded snowfall and hopefully I did not just jinx that. However, where there is Spring, there is a phrase, “Spring Cleaning.” Maybe you’ve heard of it? Maybe you’ve dreaded that saying more than the snow? Well, if you do, here are a few tips so you can get it done most efficiently.

Kitchen -
When cleaning your kitchen move around the room clockwise beginning on the right of the stove. The stove being the dirtiest makes it great to do last. You can let the drip pans and burner tops soak and by finishing with your stove you are avoiding spreading the grease around the kitchen.

Bathroom –
Never underestimate how dirty the top rim of your shower can get and be prepared to throw out a good chunk of expired stuff.
By using microfiber cloths instead of folded paper towels, you eliminate other cleaning products and can clean floors, counters, glass and tile with one reusable wipe.

Bedroom -
Use this spring cleaning time as an opportunity to start making your bed every morning. When your bed is made, your whole room will look cleaner. The same goes for your drawers full of clothes you don’t wear. Don’t be afraid to get rid of them!

This is our brief list of spring cleaning tips as it is a large task. If you are looking for help or have any questions about how we can help you, give us a call!
